Since 1 March 2022, requests concerning an .mc domain name have been handled through a registrar accredited by NIC Monaco. The registrar acts as the link between the holder and NIC Monaco for a registration, amendment, transfer or deletion.

The .mc extension has specific eligibility requirements. Applications may include:

• a company or legal entity holding an extract from Monaco’s Trade and Industry Registry (RCI);
• an association officially registered in the Principality;
• the holder of a trademark protected in Monaco or covering Monaco;
• in certain cases, an individual independently carrying out a duly authorised craft, commercial, industrial or professional activity in the Principality.

The requested name must correspond to the registered company name, a declared trading name, the trademark or the association’s name. Depending on your situation, the application may include an RCI extract issued within the previous three months, association documents or a trademark registration certificate. I check these elements beforehand to reduce incomplete or non-compliant applications.

NIC Monaco also specifies a length of between 3 and 64 characters. Letters from a to z, numbers from 0 to 9 and hyphens are accepted. Spaces, dots, slashes and accented characters are excluded. These requirements appear in the official rules for allocating .mc domain names.

1. Name check: availability, consistency with your legal identity or trademark, and compliance with naming rules.
2. Application preparation: form, holder details, contacts and supporting documents appropriate to your situation.
3. Submission to NIC Monaco: DADZCOVER submits the application and follows up on any requests for additional documents.
4. Technical activation: after approval, the domain is connected to DNS servers, the website and, where needed, professional email addresses.

NIC Monaco states that the registrar is notified of the application’s status within ten days. This relates to the review of the application and may change if a document is missing or a particular check is needed.

The domain holder must remain clearly identified and retain control of their digital assets. Changing registrar does not automatically change the holder and does not necessarily require changing DNS servers. A change of holder, however, transfers the domain to another person or organisation and requires specific supporting documents.

Frequently asked questions about .mc domain names

Can an individual freely register an .mc domain?
No. An individual cannot freely register an .mc domain. However, the naming charter provides for eligibility where an individual independently carries out a duly authorised craft, commercial, industrial or professional activity in the Principality.

Can an existing .mc domain be transferred?
Yes. It is possible to change registrar without automatically changing the holder or DNS configuration. DADZCOVER can review the existing situation and prepare the transfer request.

Does the domain belong to the service provider?
No. The right to use the domain is granted to the applicant holder. The registrar acts as an administrative and technical intermediary; the holder must remain correctly identified.
